ANXIETY THERAPY

Are You Worried About What Might Happen Next?

ANXIETY WITH DR. BEN CULHANE | PSY.D.

You’re not alone, and together, we can create a brighter future.

Are you worried about what might happen next? Do you feel like you’re constantly juggling multiple demands in your life? Maybe you find yourself always putting others’ needs before your own, neglecting your own well-being in the process. Or perhaps you feel like you’re constantly swimming in a sea of thoughts, trying desperately to keep your head above water. Anxiety can manifest itself in various ways, at the more extreme end—panic attacks.

The physical symptoms can be just as draining:

  • Sluggish in the mornings
  • Struggling to find the strength to get out of bed.
  • Trouble sleeping, leading to increased anxiety about not being able to perform at work like you used to.
  • Struggling to make decisions.
  • Overwhelmed by the options.
  • Afraid of being out of control, even panicky

These symptoms make it challenging, even harder to be present in the lives of your loved ones. There’s no denying that stress and anxiety can have a profound impact on your life. Research suggests that chronic stress and anxiety can negatively affect your health and increase your risk of heart disease. It’s a slippery slope, and before you know it, it feels like anxiety has taken control, and you’re left feeling like you’ve lost control over your own life.

But here’s the thing: you don’t have to face this alone. That’s where anxiety therapy comes in, and I’d be honored to be your guide on this journey toward regaining control and finding peace.

In therapy, we’ll work together to understand the root causes of your anxiety and develop personalized strategies to help you manage it. I believe in a holistic approach that addresses not just your mind, but also your body, spirit, and the personal and professional aspects of your life.

“We ALL experience anxiety.”

Dr. Ben Culhane

Did you know that around 40 million Americans grapple with anxiety disorders each year? That’s a staggering 18% of the population, according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America. But here’s the good news: understanding anxiety and finding ways to overcome it is within your reach. And that’s where I come in.

Anxiety is a part of our human experience. It’s completely normal to feel a touch of nerves on a first date, before an important interview, or during that nerve-wracking final exam. Anxiety kicks in when our bodies switch to fight-or-flight mode, sensing potential danger in our surroundings—a natural response to protect ourselves.

But when anxiety becomes a constant companion, that’s when things start to get tough. Prolonged exposure to stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol can disrupt our bodies’ normal functioning. It’s like throwing a wrench into the gears of a well-oiled machine. Sooner or later, our physiology starts reacting to the excessive release of these stress hormones, and that’s when things can become overwhelming.

As a therapist specializing in relationships and emotional processing, my goal is to guide you toward a place of peace and emotional well-being. Together, we’ll explore effective strategies tailored to your unique circumstances and personality. We’ll uncover the underlying causes of your anxiety and develop practical tools and techniques to manage it, even ways of processing the underlying anxiety so that it doesn’t return.

It’s common for people to not realize when they’re caught up in an anxious mindset. Sometimes, they think it’s just a normal part of life, or they lack the support system to help them find balance. But here’s the thing: anxiety disorders are real medical conditions that require professional help. And that’s where I come in. As a therapist specializing in Anxiety Treatments, I’ve witnessed the transformative power of therapy for anxiety. My clients have faced their obstacles head-on and emerged as stronger, more resilient individuals.

From the moment we meet, I’ll make sure you feel at ease. My goal is to create a safe and compassionate space where you can freely express yourself. Together, we’ll work on building skills that you can use in your day-to-day interactions, improving your overall approach to life, and reducing your stress and anxiety levels. I truly believe that with the right approach, anxiety therapy can unlock your innate ability to heal yourself.

During our sessions, we’ll dive into understanding your anxiety and stress symptoms and how they impact your life. But it’s not just about talk therapy. I’ll guide you through a variety of evidence-based techniques and tools. Through body awareness (or somatic awareness), you’ll learn how anxiety and stress manifest in your physical being, how the fight-or-flight response is triggered, where you tend to hold tension in your body, and how to release it.

Anxiety treatment isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. You’re unique and special and so is the specialized therapy tailored to you. That’s why I incorporate a range of strategies, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques, like journaling to explore cognitive beliefs, practicing relaxation techniques, and becoming more aware of the fight-or-flight response. Self-care plays a crucial role too, as well as visualization techniques that allow you to let go of memories and create vivid mental pictures of your life free from stress and anxiety. I also provide EMDR therapy, which helps process traumatic experiences at the root, reducing anxiety symptoms.

I understand that it may be difficult for you to imagine a life with less anxiety and stress. It’s all you’ve known for a while. But trust me, it is possible to overcome difficult experiences and cultivate a sense of calm and joy in your life. Anxiety treatment can serve as the pathway from where you are now to where you want to be. And guess what? I’ll be right there with you, supporting you every step of the way without any judgment.

This is your journey, and I’m here to guide you through the challenging parts, but it’s you who will tap into your strength to heal yourself. I’m just the trained professional equipped with the education and tools to help you on this transformative journey. If you’re seeking a holistic approach that encompasses your mind, body, and spirit, as well as the personal and professional aspects of your life, I would be honored to work with you.
