Mission, Vision & Values

Dr. Ben Culhane’s work is guided by his beliefs, commitments, & lifetime values:

Most of us have experienced trauma or powerful life stressors at some point in our lives. And when we do, it’s common to feel lost or even powerless, like we have no control. My life’s work and passion is to guide people who have experienced these life stressors and traumas to a place of empowerment and clear choice in their lives. Whether it is an individual or a couple struggling, I help my clients work through how these experiences have affected them emotionally, psychologically, and relationally to come to a healthy self-perception and strengthen their sense of well being and their relationships.

If you’re looking for a therapist who has a client-focused style and years of experience helping clients achieve their goals, then you’ve come to the right place. We have all adapted to life’s challenges in different ways and everyone is unique. That’s why I don’t take a one-size-fits-all approach. And why I’ve trained extensively in multiple modalities and healing approaches. My range of training includes EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples, Gottman Method for Couples, Somatic Experiencing and Awakened Embodiment, Shadow Work as form of Psychodrama and Gestalt techniques.

My areas of specialization include resolving trauma, anxiety, and mood-related disorders, as well as relationship issues involving communication, intimacy, and trust. As a therapist, my personality influences my approach to therapy by emphasizing the well-being and autonomy of my patients. I chose to become a mental health professional because I wanted to help people achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives.

A key component of the therapeutic relationship, in my view, is the ability to establish a sense of trust and safety between therapist and client. My life and treatment philosophy overlap in the belief that every person has the capacity for growth and change, and that therapy is a collaborative process that can help individuals achieve their goals.

What I love most about being a mental health professional is the privilege of witnessing the resilience and strength of the human spirit. As a California Board Licensed Psychologist (PSY29615) with a private practice, my education includes a Doctor of Psychology degree and a Master’s degree in Education. I am a member of EMDRIA and the American Psychological Association.

BALANCED HEALTH

Healthy relationships emerge from healthy individuals. I believe there is a delicate balance between physical, mental, and emotional health and that all three areas require a commitment to self-love, self-healing and self-respect.

HEALING

I believe that healing is possible for every individual. As one’s strengths, talents and hopes are uncovered and celebrated, I find that clients are inspired and encouraged to live out change.
